Hi Everyone, One of the biggest reasons why I’ve been very successful at achieving challenging goals, whether they be in business, or in other areas of life, is because I’ve been really good at breaking them down into smaller, easier goals or tasks. I recorded the video below to illustrate this, and I gave some examples of how this works in achieving different types of challenging goals, I hope you enjoy it!
The thing that gave me the idea to record this video was that I was round at my parents house helping my little sister with her maths homework a couple of nights ago. There was one problem she got stuck on and I could see why it was challenging. I had to actually break the problem down into 4 parts, and then each part took about 4 to 6 lines of working to work it out. Then I had to put the 4 parts back together into an equation to find the answer. Then I had to explain the whole thing to my sister until she understood it enough to be able to solve similar questions š It made me remember, this is the way I look at any challenging goal, whether it be in maths, or in business, in fitness, or in ANY area of life. And it’s the reason I’ve been successful in many areas. I take things that look difficult and break them down into smaller more manageable chunks, and then put them together. All of you have that ability, and I hope that the video above while containing some seemingly obvious information, will inspire many of you to look again at chasing dreams that you may have put in the ‘too hard’ basket. As the popular American author, Mark Twain once said, “The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.” I welcome your comments, Kind regards, Mark Ling, Co Founder, Amazing Self P.S.I’m running a LIVE online webinar on Monday November 8, at 9pm EST (Click Here to see what time that is in your own local timezone). The webinar is titled: The Ultimate Life Success Webinar, and you can visit this link here for more information about I’m going to be covering on this one-of-a-kind LIVE online event. |

Great!
November 3, 2010
HI Mark. I really liked your presentation. While the concept of breaking things down isn’t new to me, the way you presented it with the drawings really made all the difference and created an “ah ha!” moment.
Thank you!
November 3, 2010
Thanks very much for this instructive video. It Just reminds me of the saying that ” Rome was not build in one day”.and that we should take one step at a time.I just love the way you put it.So simple that anyone can understand.thanks again.
November 3, 2010
Mark,
Enjoyed the video and admire your artistry and penmanship. This reminds me of Kaizen, the Japanese art of doing little things to attain a larger goal. I like how you compared it to climbing a mountain and having flag posts along the way; it brings the concept to life. I’m actually at the beginning of some changes in my life and this is a good tool for my tool kit. I’m looking forward to more.
Love and Light,
Lauren

Hey guys, glad to hear you like the video š Iām not exactly a proper cartoonist but I wanted to film it in this way to see if people enjoyed this way of representing the concept. Keep chasing your dreams and make sure you dream big! You only live once (as far as I know) so make sure you live with passion, purpose and determination to make great things happen.
November 4, 2010

Hey Mark. I teach people all the time and have quite a lot of training in helping others achieve their goals. You nailed it right on the head (of course you would; you do know what you are talking about!). Well done. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with others; your easy and likable style makes for great presentation. Ross.

Thanks Mark, I really enjoyed this video and truly liked the way you sketched it out as you spoke. Seeing this video has actually inspired me to illustrate my own Ebook that I/m writing coincidently about achieving any chhallenging goal by using a gradient approach. Thanks again. It was fun and educational and keep cartooning.

Hey Mark … Great little video here.
I’ve not long got up and turned on the computer so that was a very motivational start to the day š
The brain’s fresh and receptive and I really enjoyed your unique presentation style with the time-lapse cartooning.
Great stuff ….. Pete moring.

Mark,
The visual representation is very helpful for me in re-instating the effectiveness of success ideas like this one.
Positive criticism: without the visual representation it would have been slightly hard for me to understand your accent at first go – but I didn’t have to go for a second take.
I appreciate and thank you for the video.

I strongly believe on your ideology, this is my way of Life system of handling things. Emty days are nothing but poor imaginations! we will do what we can in this Life, what we can not finish in this Life we start it in the next, it is not a must that we finish all in this Life, because I believe in the Law of reincarnation. so what one needs to do he must start it with one step, I Love your system, it is excellent.
November 4, 2010
Thanks for sending it to me
November 4, 2010
Nice job Mark! Keep the videos coming.
November 4, 2010
where is the video?
November 5, 2010
Mark,
You surely do make it look easy but, how does one divide nearly
70 years of cultivating a very negative opinion of one’s self into a simple drawing on a paper?
I know it can be done for some but, I also know many who, LIKE MYSELF, who have tried so hard but, it just never happened. i’m praying that you guys have got it right.
November 5, 2010
Mark,
Nice job,
brilliant,

November 5, 2010
It is seemingly obvious, but amazing! Why didn’t I think of that?
Thanks for putting me on the path to my dreams.
This one tip is worth a million bucks!
November 5, 2010
Very simply put.
Somebody once said in a program, “You can’t eat a whole Jack fruit, but you can eat it, when you cut it up into small pieces and eat it”.
Likewise, when you can carve up your goal into steps or signposts, you will not find them very difficult to achieve.
November 5, 2010
Hi Mark,
many thanks for forwarding the video. Although what you say is very obvious, many of us have the tendancy to forget the “simple” steps in life and try to reach the goal without having mapped out the way to get there. Great to see somebody putting out some very useful information. Look forward to hearing more from you in the coming days. Best Regards.
November 5, 2010

November 6, 2010
Every time I come across your information Mark I am blown away. You really make things easy to understand. Great info can’t wait for more.

Mark
This video is so inspiring, keep me posted whenever.

November 6, 2010
Thanks Mark. I think it is an effective trick to make someone’s dream into success. I guess, main theme is, If I want to do something and wanna get success, I have to divide the whole process in different slots & should try to overcome one by one. Then whole process will be easier & will be running according to dream. Otherwise as like everyday’s so many themes, It also will be gone into deep freezer.
November 6, 2010
I appreciated the way that you presented the information. The visual diagram of the metaphor made the difference for me, and this excellent metaphor I will pass on to my children, students, and friends. It is so easy to get lost in the big picture and simply lose our perspectives and sometimes dreams or goals entirely. The idea to come back to the simplicity of creating a map of one or two sign posts at a time, makes goals and life manageable and fun again. This was exactly what I needed to see today.. Thanks and take care! Stacie J.
November 6, 2010
Hi Mark,
The simplicity and drawings put your message over memorably. I am most grateful.

Nice piece of doodling on the pad, Mark. Most impressive. Looking forward to the webinar on Monday.
November 6, 2010
The video provides a whole new way at looking on how to start a goal oriented project. The goal may not be that much of an impossibility, if the right approach is taken.

Hi Mark,
thanks a lot for this stimulating video.
It did indeed give me the aha moment, waking up something I knew a long time already !
I start on my business plan again right now, the structure just popped up during your video (got stuck a few weeks ago).
Together with a partner I am setting up an Environmental Park in Indonesia, sustainable and renewable energy, recycling in general, water production, soil improvement and power generation. Problem is financing it, but just got a greaty idea !
Thanks a lot again !
Jacob.

Great drawing skills and a very innovative video. Thank you
November 7, 2010
You make it simple to overcome those mountains that often comes up. Thankyou very much..
November 7, 2010
I agree with this presentation 100%! However, there are some challenges that even the first step seems like the entire mountain. I would like to hear Mark Ling’s suggestions for getting off the coach. Not just how easy it is once you’ve moved your backside.
November 7, 2010
It is something I have known most of the time (I lost about 10 pounds that way) but it was and still IS important to hear it again from someone else to remember that values for every other thing too, not just loosing weight; BTW I liked cartoons, pretty amusing ones and showing by the picture is the best way to explain things. š
November 7, 2010
Great video and very true content. It is a whole lot easier to break a goal into pieces that to try to swallow it whole. Thank you and I look forward to hearing and reading more.

November 8, 2010
I found your video very informative. I’ve always known about taking baby steps, but found myself getting scattered with the mountain. Now I’ll take a different approach, one project at a time, one step at a time, one mountain at a time. I’m very excited to take one step at a time into a less frustrating fulfilling future. I’ll be tuning in at 9pm also. All the best and thanks!

Comments are super but “What’s a Flash Plug In ?”, I obviously don’t have one !
Editor’s comment: Try googling it! http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
November 9, 2010
Reiterates what I often say to myself when I feel overwhelmed. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Love the drawings which help you to visualize setting many smaller goals to reach the big goals. Wonderful!
November 9, 2010
Yes I agree, just taking that first step is the key. Once you get started then you begin to gain momentum. Thanks, Mark
November 9, 2010
Great presentation. . . . . or as a friend once said, you only live once, if that ! Thanks for helping so many people to live once.
November 9, 2010
This is an excellent way to show that any goal is totally achievable when you break it in small steps. This reminds me of that movie….I look forward to more.
November 9, 2010
Excellent video, loved the cartoon-type presentation; it helps a lot not to forget the concept. “A picture says more than 1,000 words”! Congrats!
